Recording RDP client

Postby magnarj » Tue Jan 15, 2008 4:41 am

I want to record from my local computer, what I'm doing on my RDP CLIENT. Is that possible or is there a registry hack to do it? Could this be implemented as a new feature?

Currently it is not possible, there was a time when you could change registry keys to make this work, but the way the ports are now getting switched there is no real good way to do this. I will ask development to chime in maybe they have a suggestion.

It's possible again in recent versions of RecordTS. Feel free to send me a PM for instructions.

To record RDP/ICA sessions on the client side you need to install RecordTS on the workstation and create the following registry entries:

; For 64-bit machines the registry path is different:
; [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\RecordTS\Recorders\VncTunnel001]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RecordTS\Recorders\ClientRecorder]

; The port number for RecordTS to listen on for client's connections.
"LocalPort"=dword:3390 ; or any other not used TCP/IP port

; The port number of the remote RDP/ICA service.
"RemotePort"=dword:3389 (RDP) or 1494 (ICA)

; This is the address of the host running the RDP/ICA service.
; It can also be "localhost".
"RemoteAddress"="MyRemoteRdpServer.example.com"
"Protocol"="RDP" or "ICA"

I just tried this and it doesn't seem to work.

I tried LocalPort and RemotePort as dword values, hex, and decimal.
RemoteAddress and Protocol as string values. I also tried the host server name I was trying to RDP to as the RemoteAddress and "localhost" and the local client computer name. Restarted the service each time and even restarted with a couple of the different configurations.

RecordTS would not record any sessions when I RDP to the remote server.

Also, can this be setup to record ANY RDP session from the client computer, or will it only record sessions to one specific host?

Thanks
